City of Nampa awarded over $14 million in transportation grants

City of Nampa

The City of Nampa has successfully partnered with Idaho Transportation Department (ITD), Local Highway Technical Assistance Council (LHTAC), Community Development Association of Southwest Idaho (COMPASS) and Valley Regional Transit (VRT) to compete for and receive nearly $14.7 million in grant funding.

The City was awarded 13 grants which will help fund projects slated between 2018 and 2022. The grants are essential to help bridge the nearly $20 million per year transportation funding shortfall needed by the City and will help fund projects needed to reduce traffic congestion, increase safety and support ongoing maintenance.

The full list of grants awarded to the City of Nampa are listed HERE.

Near Elijah Drain Southside & Marcum

The Elijah Drain is one such project recently completed with $1 million of grant funding from the ITD’s Local Strategic Initiatives (LSI) grant administered by the Local Highway Technical Assistance Council (LHTAC). The Elijah Drain project was previously funded and not included in the grants listed on page 2. The project rebuilt the deteriorated Elijah Drain culvert and failed asphalt roadway surface, widened Greenhurst to three-lanes with curb, gutter and sidewalk on the south side of the road. The road was closed to traffic in July and reopened to traffic at the end of October, three weeks ahead of schedule and within budget. Total cost for the project was $1,413,708 and with $1 million in grant funding, only $413,708 cost to Nampa.

The City would like to thank the community, especially the adjacent property owners, for their patience during construction. LHTAC and the City have planned a brief ribbon cutting at 11:00 a.m. November 19 near the Elijah Drain on Southside and Marcum.  The public is invited to attend.
