On April 25, 2018, at 12:29 a.m., Nampa Police dispatch received a report of a vehicle versus house crash in the 300 block of South Powerline Road. The reporting party stated that the vehicle was attempting to leave the scene of the crash.

Nampa Police officers responded to the scene and located a white 2006 Chrysler 300 in the front yard of the residence. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Joseph Rivera, a 30-year-old Nampa resident. Rivera had been headed eastbound on East Sherman Avenue and drove through the intersection, the yard of the residence and crashed into the residence. The crash caused considerable damage to the residence and the vehicle. The residence was occupied but the room the vehicle crashed into was vacant. The occupants of the residence were not injured. Rivera was not injured in the crash and was the only occupant of the vehicle. Evidence at the scene, statements from Rivera and the homeowner, showed that Rivera had tried to leave the scene of the crash but his car got stuck on a decorative rock in the yard.

Rivera was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs or other intoxicating substance, a misdemeanor and leaving the scene of a property damage crash, a misdemeanor. He was booked into the Canyon County jail on those charges.
