The city of Nampa’s Street Division has been working hard to improve winter driving conditions and keep drivers safe.
So far this winter season, the city of Nampa has applied 36,280 gallons of magnesium chloride/brine, 434 yards of salt and seven yards of sand. Magnesium chloride is a liquid deicer which is applied to Priority One and Priority Two streets before snow falls to help prevent icing. Effectiveness of deicer is lost when temperatures fall below 25 degrees.
City of Nampa staff are constantly checking the weather and are applying the pretreatment of the deicer when possible. It takes approximately 4,000 gallons of the deicer to cover the priority one areas identified. The city currently has 6,500 gallons of magnesium chloride/deicer, 2,000 plus yards of sand and 1,077 tons of salt.
At its disposal to address winter road conditions, the city of Nampa’s Street Division has four large plows/sanders, one small plow sander, one grade, two backhoes and one loader. The Street Division Supervisor Don Barr said, “The City is extremely fortunate to have such dedicated employees that are so flexible and talented.”
