On Sept. 5 at 4:01 a.m., Nampa Police were notified of a vehicle that had crashed into a house in the 200 block of East Amity Avenue in Nampa. The residents reported a possible gas leak in the house due to the crash.
When officers arrived on scene, they found a maroon 1998 Chevy Cavalier had run into the house near the kitchen area. Nobody inside of the residence was injured due to the crash. When the crash occurred, a natural gas line to the home was broken and not able to be shut off. Nampa Police officers evacuated the persons located in the home and homes around the crash.
The driver of the Chevy Cavalier, David Valdez, 36, of Greenleaf and a 28-year old female passenger were transported to a local hospital for natural gas exposure. They were not injured in the crash. Charges related to the crash are pending as it is still under investigation.
Intermountain Gas and Idaho Power employees are currently on scene and now have the gas leak stopped. East Amity Avenue/East Colorado Avenue is currently closed between Holly Street and 12th Avenue Road. Motorists are asked to avoid the area. It is unknown when the roadways will open back up. Evacuated residents are now being allowed to go back to their homes.
