Nampa Police officers are investigating a homicide which occurred in the 4100 block of Bear Valley Drive around 11:20 p.m. on April 28.  Nampa Police dispatch received a 911 call from the resident informing police that her estranged husband, Phillip Cabrera, 38-years-old, was attempting to break in to the residence.  Before officers arrived on scene, Cabrera had forced entry inside and was reported to be in possession of a gun and threatening people.

When officers arrived on scene they reported multiple shots fired, with some shots fired at one of the officers and other shots fired inside of the residence.  Shortly after the shots were fired, Cabrera was taken into custody by police. An adult male was found deceased inside the residence with apparent gunshot wounds in the head and possibly torso.  An adult female, a 10-month-old child and a 9-year-old child, all residents of the home, were found to be safe. No officers fired their weapons and no officers were injured during this incident.

Cabrera, a Meridian resident, has been charged with 1st degree murder, attempted murder on a law enforcement officer and shooting into an occupied dwelling. He was booked into the Canyon County jail on those charges.

An autopsy will be performed Monday by the Canyon County Coroner’s Office.  Further information regarding the identity of the deceased will be available after completion of the autopsy.
