[ARCHIVED] Nampa Police investigating shooting and homicide that occurred in south Nampa

On June 22, 2016, at 5:05 p.m., Nampa Police officers responded to the report of a shooting that had just occurred near the intersection of Florida Avenue and South Ivy Street. When officers arrived on scene they located a 25-year-old male with a single gunshot wound.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male about 30-years-old with a shaved head and wearing baggy pants. The suspect reportedly exited his vehicle and approached the victim who was driving another vehicle. The victim was shot once and the suspect then returned to his vehicle and fled the area. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries sustained in the shooting. The victim’s identity is not being released by police at this time.

The suspect vehicle is described as a white passenger car, possibly a Cadillac, Oldsmobile Cutlass or similar style vehicle. It possibly has a gold stripe and gold and silver spoke rims. The vehicle may have some damage on the passenger side.

Nampa Police detectives are looking for a person of interest in this case. He is identified as Jesus Avila, 31, who also goes by “AJ.” Avila should be considered armed and dangerous.

“All available investigators are searching for this vehicle and the perpetrator of this crime,” said Lt. Eric Skoglund. “We have dedicated numerous detectives and available patrol resources to investigating this shooting and we know that folks in the community will assist us in locating this car and this individual,” Skoglund said.
