Today is World Town Planning Day and every year planners and communities come together to celebrate how good planning improves the lives of people and benefits society at large, creating places to live, work and play together. World Town Planning Day began in 1949 and has become a special day to recognize and promote the role of planners and planning in creating healthy and prosperous communities.
In honor of World Town Planning Day, and to help educate the businesses and residents of Nampa, the City of Nampa’s Planning and Zoning Department is launching The Citizen’s Guide to Planning. The guide is focused on the purpose of the planning profession and how plans and codes are created, along with key planning principles everyone should know. For the next 12 months, additional topics will be added to The Citizen’s Guide to Planning. Readers can look forward to learning about matters such as the comprehensive plan, the public hearing process, and housing types and affordability, along with other topics.
It is the goal of Nampa’s Planning and Zoning Department to inform the public on what planning is, the importance of good planning, and help citizens understand how they can get involved in the planning process.
The first issue, and future issues, of The Citizen’s Guide to Planning can be accessed here and the accompanying short videos can be watched here. Information and links are also available at https://www.cityofnampa.us/1656/Citizens-Guide-to-Planning.
