Nampa Parks and Recreation Department November Events

Check out the programs and classes being offered for the month of November from the Nampa Parks & Recreation Department. For more information or to register, please call 208-468-5858, go online to www.nampaparksandrecreation.org, or stop by the Harward Recreation Center, 131 Constitution Way in Nampa.

Injury Screening
-Provided by St. Alphonsus Physical Therapy

Stop by the weight room desk to arrange a 15-minute injury assessment or sign up for one of our ongoing times. Screenings will include recommendations for injury treatment and prevention. 

All ages are welcome 

Every 1st, 3rd & 5th Thursday of the month (12:30-1pm) 

Every 2nd & 4th Thursday of the month (5:30-6pm) 

Harward Rec Center 

Free for Members or with day pass

 

Traditions Tang Soo Do

This class teaches self-confidence, builds self-esteem, and improves balance, while establishing discipline and courtesy towards others. Participants will learn age-appropriate self-defense and weapons training. These classes are non-violent; sparring is optional. 

Clothing and Equipment

Students should wear loose fitting clothing, such as sweatpants and a t-shirt. No jewelry or watches during class. A mouth guard and a groin protector cup (males) are recommended.

November 1-29

Tai Chi Classes

The beginning class covers the fundamentals of Tai Chi including basic movements, breathing, meditation, warm-up form and an introduction on the Yang Style Short form. The intermediate class continues with movements, breathing, meditation, the Yang Short form, Yang Long form, and an introduction to push hands (Tai Chi sparring).

November 7-28

Tuesdays

Beginning: 6:30-7:30pm

Intermediate: 7-8:30pm

Women’s Self-Defense & Fitness 

This class is designed for women of all ages, sizes, and athletic abilities. The class covers situational awareness, releases, proper falling and recovery techniques, effective punches, strikes, kicks, improved fitness, and basic martial arts etiquette. Students should wear loose fitting clothing, such as sweatpants and a t-shirt. It is recommended that an adult accompanies youth 12-17 years.

Splash N’ Dash 

We do the splashing… parents do the dashing! Parents, enjoy a Friday evening with each other while we actively entertain your children in the pools! For 3 hours our certified lifeguards and lesson staff will be in the water actively supervising, playing water games and having a blast swimming around. With those 3 hours enjoy dinner and a movie, get things caught up around the house, or just enjoy a relaxing night. Pre-registration is required.

Encanto Camp 

From the Disney Movie, dance along to some of your favorite songs while learning 3 different styles of dance! Hip Hop, Ballet and Jazz/Musical Theater! Learn technique, experience different styles of dance, and play a game!

Taught by Instructors from Idaho Rhythm & Dance Company at the Harward Recreation Center

 

CPR/AED & First Aid Class 

Course is designed to teach participants to recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing and first aid emergencies. Upon successful completion participants are issued a 2-year certification through the American Red Cross.

Bob Ross Style Painting 

Have you ever wanted to paint? Do you think it is possible for you to walk away with a painting that anyone would be proud to display on their wall? Well, it IS. And you CAN! All supplies included to complete a 12” x 16” painting in class. Register for one or all of the classes.

Veterans Day at the Rec Center 

All veterans and military members are invited to spend Veterans Day at the Harward Rec Center. Whether it’s shooting hoops, working out, swimming in the pool or relaxing in the sauna, join us for a FREE day of recreation. Thank you for your service!

Harward Rec Center’s Yoga Retreat

As the trees change with the seasons, simultaneously showing flexibility & stability, so we too can develop resilience of body & mind to be flexible, yet stable at our core. This workshop will focus on postures that ground us in a solid foundation and then allow us to twist and change shape.

Light snacks will be provided.

Youth Strength Training Course 

By successfully completing this 4-day course, youth ages 13 and 14 years will be granted use of the weight room including the free weights (some restrictions will apply). This course will focus on safe, productive training and practical experience. Participants are required to attend the entire class and pass both a written and practical exam. Classes require preregistration at the Program Desk.

Mini Monets 

Keep your toddlers busy with our new hands-on art class. This program will help with motor skills and creative thinking. Kids and parents will create fun projects together.

American Red Cross Babysitter 

Training In this one-day class learn skills necessary to provide safe and responsible care for children in the absence of parents and guardians. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Red Cross Babysitter Training Certification card. Please bring a sack lunch.

Double Crust Pies 

Pies aren’t as tricky to make as they look! Join me in the kitchen and create a delicious dessert to add to your Thanksgiving table. Please bring a pie pan and 2 cans of pie filling of your choice (not pumpkin).

Mario Kart Ultimate Tournament

Join us for our Mario Kart Deluxe 8 Ultimate Nintendo Switch tournament. Ages 10 and up are welcome. Although a competition in nature, this tournament is meant to be fun for all ages and will no doubt have many levels of skill present. Tournament is double elimination with pool play to determine seeding. Mario Kart will be 150 cc, Smart Steering and Auto Acceleration will be turned off, and no CPU’s. Join us for the 39th Annual Festival of Trees in Boise. There are beautiful hand decorated trees and exciting performances to enjoy.

Laps Before Naps

Come and get your LAPS in before your after turkey naps. Bring 4 items of canned or non-perishable food and receive free entry. Food will be donated to the Idaho Food Bank. Whether it is laps in the pool or laps around the track, come be active with us and kick off the holiday season

Caldwell Night Lights 

Join the Nampa Recreation Department as we walk through the Winter Wonderland in downtown Caldwell. We will visit Indian Creek in its winter splendor. Please dress for the weather.
