The City of Nampa and Nampa Parks Department will celebrate Arbor Day* Tuesday, April 25, 2023 by planting five trees at Orah Brandt Park.
The City of Nampa is celebrating its 24th year as a Tree City USA, which is a designation received from the Arbor Day Foundation and Idaho Department of Lands. Nampa has met the four standards to become a Tree City USA: a tree board and department, a tree care ordinance, a comprehensive community forestry program and holding an Arbor Day observance.
Children from Inspire Connections Academy are expected to help plant the trees with the assistance of forestry staff at 10:00 a.m. Nampa Mayor Debbie Kling will read the Arbor Day proclamation followed by students learning how to properly plant trees. This is an opportunity for the public to learn the basic skills of tree planting along with the importance of urban forestry ahead of Arbor Day.
Nampa Assistant Parks and Recreation Director Cody Swander said, “The City of Nampa is proud to celebrate Arbor Day each year with our ceremonial tree planting within the public spaces of our community. Nampa’s Forestry Division works hard to ensure our urban forest is diverse, healthy and maintained in order to provide all of the benefits that trees bring to our community. As we honor the roots of Arbor Day from 1872 in Nebraska and its founder J. Sterling Morton, Nampa celebrates the meaning of Arbor Day by planting trees with some of Nampa’s children. We strive to instill a respect and understanding to a younger generation that trees are important and a part of our city’s infrastructure worth protecting.”
*Arbor Day is typically celebrated the last Friday in April and will be officially recognized this year on Friday, April 28, 2023.
