The Franklin Boulevard and Birch Lane intersection will be temporarily closed beginning Monday, March 20, 2023, to complete the roundabout project which began late August 2022. The project is expected to be completed in May of this year.
Last year, some utility related delays during construction postponed the project. Rather than keep the intersection closed, the City of Nampa installed temporary pavement for public use during the winter months and will now close the roundabout to remove the temporary pavement and install permanent material. Once completed, this project will also provide enhanced pedestrian crossings, connecting sidewalks to the intersection and new light poles to increase safety and improve the flow of traffic.
A full road closure is needed for these improvements and traffic will be detoured around the area for the duration of the project; however, local access to residential property, businesses and schools within the project limits will be available.
On March 20, business access to the Birch Business Plaza will be available from Franklin Boulevard while crews work in front of the entrance on Birch Lane. On March 21, business access will then switch to Birch Lane until crews begin to pave. To minimize the time the intersection will be closed, access to the Birch Business Plaza will alternate between Birch Lane and Franklin Boulevard to accommodate the most efficient construction possible. The public is encouraged to follow detour signs to access businesses in the construction area. We will continue to inform the public on the project progress and updates to business access.
