Nampa in History: Lake Ethel

NAMPA IN HISTORY LAKE ETHEL

Did you know Lakeview Park used to be home to Lake Ethel and was popular for ice skating and even baptisms? In 1888, Orson F. Persons homesteaded what is now known as Lakeview Park. Many people are surprised to learn there was a lake in the park, named Lake Ethel, used for swimming and fishing, among other activities. Lake Ethel was a man-made lake constructed originally to store irrigation water from Mason Creek. According to our records, the picture below is from 1891 when it was first filled.
Today, Lakeview Park is Nampa’s oldest park with a variety of amenities. The picturesque Lakeview Park is more than 44 acres in size and is located along the entrance into Nampa from the Garrity exit.
