The City of Nampa invites the community to help determine how to improve State Highway 45 (SH-45) at an open house Thursday, April 21, 2022, from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. at Nampa City Hall (411 3rd St. S.).
The community can learn how sixteen (16) alternative improvements from the first SH-45 open house held in August 2021 have been reduced to eight and staff will be available to answer questions. Attendees will be asked to learn about and share their priorities on the remaining proposed improvements.
The City of Nampa has explored options to realign State Highway 45 through its jurisdiction for over a decade. State Highway 45 connects Owyhee County and southern Canyon County to I-84. It is a critical route for agribusiness and freight. Traffic volumes passing through downtown Nampa can exceed 25,000 vehicles every day.
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) began working with the City of Nampa on the current Planning and Environmental Linkages (PEL) Assessment in May of 2021. To date, it has re-considered previous alternatives and added several more consistent with the project’s purpose and need. All alternatives have been evaluated against a preliminary range of screening criteria developed as an outcome of the first open house. Any that met these criteria and continue to provide improved performance through 2045 will now be subjected to further, more detailed analysis. This PEL study is expected to result in FHWA endorsement and will reduce the cost of a future required environmental study. At this time, the study is the only component of this project that has received funding.
