December Activities with Nampa Parks & Recreation

Check out the programs and classes being offered for the month of December from the Nampa Parks & Recreation Department. For more information or to register, please call 208-468-5858, go online to, or stop by the Harward Recreation Center, located at 131 Constitution Way in Nampa.


Recreation Center Adult Winter Coed Volleyball

Harward Recreation Center is offering a coed volleyball league. Fee covers eight games and a double elimination tournament. League play will begin January 10, 2022. Teams play one game a week followed by a double elimination tournament. Games will be played at the Harward Recreation Center.

Traditions Tang Soo Do

This class teaches self-confidence, builds self-esteem and improves balance, while establishing discipline and courtesy towards others. Participants will learn age appropriate self-defense and weapons training. These classes are non-violent; sparring is optional. Students should wear loose fitting clothing, such as sweatpants and a t-shirt. No jewelry or watches during class. A mouth guard and a groin protector cup (males) are recommended.

Tai Chi Classes

The beginning class covers the fundamentals of Tai Chi including basic movements, breathing, meditation, warm-up form and an introduction on the Yang Style Short form. The intermediate class continues with movements, breathing, meditation, the Yang Short form, Yang Long form

and an introduction to push hands (Tai Chi sparring).

Adult Basketball League

Harward Recreation Department is offering an Adult Basketball League beginning in January. Each team will play eight games followed by a double elimination tournament. All games will consist of two 20-minute halves. Non-competitive leagues will play on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday evenings. Competitive leagues will play Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday evenings. Teams may be moved divisions after they have played four games. Game times will be 7pm, 8pm or 9pm. League play will begin the week of January 10, 2022. Informational Meeting December 1 at 6pm (in the Senior Center).

$425 early registration December 7

$460 late registration December 14

Player fee: $10 Nampa residents, $15 Non-residents

Games will be played at West, South, East Valley or Lone Star Middle Schools.


CPR/AED & First Aid Class

Course is designed to teach participants to recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing and first aid emergencies. Upon successful completion participants are issued a 2-year certification through the American Red Cross.

Santa’s Workshop

Sponsored by Idaho Central Credit Union. Come spend two hours making holiday crafts, playing games and decorating cookies. Santa will even be making an appearance.

Winter Spikeball Tournament

Get out of the cold and join us for our Winter Spikeball Tournament. Come in your best ugly sweater winter outfit to compete for the best dressed trophy and have a good time. Matches consist of three games to 21 points (winning by two). Each team will play a double elimination tournament following pool play to determine seeding.

Mario Kart/Super Smash Ultimate Tournaments

Join us this fall and winter for one of our Mario Kart Deluxe 8 and Super Smash Bros Ultimate Nintendo Switch tournaments series. Ages 10 and up are welcome. Although a competition in nature, this tournament series is meant to be fun for all ages and will no doubt have many levels of skill present. Tournaments will be double elimination with pool play to determine seeding.

Mario Kart will be 150 cc, Smart steering and Auto Acceleration will be turned off, and no CPU’s. 

Super Smash Bro’s Ultimate will have a 7- minute time limit with 3 stocks per game.

Youth Strength Training Course

By successfully completing this four-day course, youth ages 13 and 14 years will be granted use of the weight room (some restrictions apply). This course will focus on safe, productive training and practical experience. Classes are ongoing and require pre-registration at the Program Desk.

Caldwell Night Lights

Join the Harward Recreation Department as we walk through the Winter Wonderland in downtown Caldwell. We will visit Indian Creek in its winter splendor. Please dress for the weather.

Gingerbread Kids

Come create some gingerbread men worth telling a story about! We’ll provide

the cookies, frosting, and an assortment of edibles, and you bring the imagination.

Each participant will take home 5 cookies. Children 5 years and under must be

accompanied by an adult.

Making Macarons

The Macaron is a French Pastry and is known for it’s shape composition. Although tricky to make, you can learn how to create this delicate little sandwich cookie and impress your friends and family with your skills! Supplies will be provided, and participants will take home at least 8 macarons.

Cookie Decorating

Decorating sugar cookies can be a tricky business! Using royal icing, you can learn

how to make some fun Holiday designs and serve up some smiles! All supplies

provided. Participants will go home with at least 6 decorated cookies.

Self-Guided Christmas Light Tour

Every year in December there are marvelous displays of holiday lights in Nampa. You and your family can have a wonderful time driving around looking at the festive decorations. Begin your self-guided tour by visiting us at Nampa’s Christmas tree display located in downtown Nampa. The tour will be about a 90-minute drive to complete. We are always looking for new additions to the map. If you know of a must-see house or neighborhood, please email the address to [email protected]

Splash N’ Dash

We do the splashing… parents do the dashing! Parents enjoy a Friday evening with each other while we actively entertain your children in the pools! For four hours our certified lifeguard and lesson staff will be in the water actively supervising, playing water games and having a blast swimming around. With those four hours enjoy dinner and a movie, get things caught up around the house, or just enjoy a relaxing night. Pre-registration is required. Children must be potty trained.

American Red Cross Lifeguarding

This course is designed for experienced swimmers ages 15 and older that want to become Red Cross Lifeguards. Advanced skills are taught and information about lifesaving techniques will be presented. Lifeguard, CPR and First Aid certifications are awarded upon successful completion of the course. Course prerequisites are: 300-yard swim using front crawl and breaststroke, retrieval of a 10-pound brick from seven feet of water and two minutes of treading water with no hands. If you are unsure whether you can complete the prerequisites, sign up for a skills evaluation. Refund request must be made four business days before start of class.

W.S.I. Water Safety Instructor Course

This American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Course demonstrates how to teach Red Cross swimming lessons and set up lesson plans. If you have a desire to become a swimming instructor, then this is the perfect class for you. Course prerequisites are 25 yards in the following six strokes: front crawl, backcrawl, breaststroke, butterfly, sidestroke, and elementary backstroke. If you are unsure whether you can complete the prerequisites, sign up for a skills evaluation. Refund request must be made four business days before start of class.

New Year’s Eve Lock-In for Kids

Sponsored by Domino’s Pizza 

Get ready to ring in 2022!  Stay locked-in at the Harward Recreation Center all night! Kids will participate in a safe, supervised New Year’s Eve party while enjoying movies, swimming, games, a pizza party, and more. Children should bring a sleeping bag, swimsuit, towel, and clothes to sleep in. Early registration deadline is December 30. A $5 additional fee will be charged after the early registration deadline.

Christmas Tree Recycling

Christmas trees may be dropped off at Kohlerlawn Cemetery beginning December 26 through January 18. Trees must be free of stands, lights and all ornamentation. Trees will be turned into mulch and used throughout our parks and trails.
