[ARCHIVED] Officer Involved Shooting

During the course of the traffic stop, the driver of the vehicle, Richard Bigby-Garcia, age

35, pointed a rifle at the officer and attempted to elude the officer in his vehicle. Police

pursued the vehicle to the 500 block of E. Washington, where the suspect drove through

the fence of his residence. He exited the vehicle with a rifle, threatened police and ran

into the residence.

The subject came to the door of the residence with a firearm and threatened officers

again. The subject was given multiple commands to drop the firearm but did not comply.

The subject then moved to an upstairs window still in possession of the firearm. Officers

on scene discharged their firearms, striking the subject. The suspect was transported to a

local hospital for treatment. Upon release, Garcia was arrested and transported to the

Canyon County Jail.

The Canyon County Critical Incident Task Force was called out to investigate the

incident. The Canyon County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation and Public
