This website is dedicated exclusively to the long-range transportation Plan being developed for the City of Nampa and its Area of City Impact, with special emphasis on Downtown. The intent of this Plan is to preserve and promote the quality of life and economic prosperity of the greater Nampa metropolitan area by providing a safe, convenient transportation system consistent with regional values and available funding.

The Plan includes the following components:

• Inventory and document the existing transportation system;
• Identify existing and future transportation needs;
• Develop safe accesses to neighborhoods and businesses; and
• Prioritize improvements based on reasonably available funding.

I invite you to join us throughout 2010 in developing the Plan. Your involvement is an essential part of its success. With that in mind, I request and welcome your suggestions now or at any time throughout this process.

The goal of the Nampa Citywide Transportation Plan is to identify the critical investments needed to implement a safe, efficient, and sustainable transportation system that responds to the current and future expectations of a growing community.

This Transportation Plan has two broad objectives and supporting tasks:

1. Objective 1: Develop a fiscally constrained, prioritized blueprint for improving and expanding the transportation roadway system throughout the City of Nampa and its current and proposed Area of City Impact.
   
   Tasks:
   • Collect accurate baseline information about the existing transportation system;
   • Conduct a comprehensive needs assessment highlighting preservation and improvement projects needed for the transportation system by 2035;
   • Focus special attention on traffic circulation in Downtown Nampa and identify specific alternative solutions for existing problems;
   • Implement a thoughtful evaluation, cost estimation and prioritization of projects identified in the needs assessment, consistent with the City of Nampa's Comprehensive Plan;
   • Identify, evaluate and quantify funding sources that are likely to be available to fund higher priority projects;
   • Define interim improvement programs for years 2015, 2020, 2025 and 2035 that best utilize the anticipated revenue stream; and
   • Gain formal adoption of the Plan by the Nampa City Council
     
     
2. Objective 2: Conduct the planning process in a fiscally prudent manner:
   
   Tasks:
   • Manage and coordinate the planning process to maximize efficiency and cost-effectiveness;
   • Utilize City of Nampa resources, when available, to minimize out-of-pocket costs to the city;
   • Interact with the public and stakeholder groups throughout the planning process in a timely and informative manner;
   • Emphasize inter-agency collaboration, coordination and cooperation.

The planning area encompasses all of the Nampa City limits and several additional square miles, including north to U.S. 20/26, east to McDermott Road, south to Bowmont Road and west to Midway/Rim Road.
