Business Code Compliance
Compliance Measures
Code Compliance and Community Relations Division works in conjunction with the Planning and Zoning Department other City departments to issue permits, licenses and registrations, and enforce various state and local codes and ordinances relating to businesses.

Zoning Code
In addition to the enforcement of various sections of the city code, Code Compliance is responsible for the enforcement of the City's zoning code.  The Zoning Code defines what type of activities can take place on residential, commercial, industrial, and agriculturally zoned properties. Some activities require permits or special approval from thePlanning and Zoning Commission and/or City Council.

Common Violations

Code Compliance typically deals with violations of the city code, which includes the Zoning Code, such as:
  • Operating a business in a residential area
  • Operating a business without the proper land use permits
  • Improper outside storage
  • Property maintenance
  • Trash on property
  • Illegal land use
  • Illegal dumping
  • Excessive weeds
  • Fence maintenance
  • Unsecured abandoned property
  • Signs
  • Landscaping maintenance
  • Sidewalk maintenance
  • Graffiti
  • Dangerous buildings 

Community Improvement
Through voluntary compliance, cooperation, and a spirit of personal responsibility for the well-being of our community, conditions that create code violations can be eliminated and the program will succeed in making the City of Nampa an even better place to live.  However, sometimes it does become necessary for properties to be abated through our Abatement Program.

As citizens of the City of Nampa, we owe it to ourselves and to our neighbors to maintain our businesses and homes in a manner, which has a positive effect on the overall appearance of our City.

The basis of the code compliance program rests upon each of us doing as good neighbors. We all have property rights that protect us; however, the term “property rights” also implies that a property owner has certain responsibilities. No property within the city may be used or maintained in a manner, which downgrades the value, use, enjoyment of safety of one’s own or surrounding property.

Code Compliance personnel are always available to meet with you to explain the program and assist with improving your neighborhood.

Business Registration
The City of Nampa does NOT currently have a business registration mandate. However, we do offer the opportunity for you to register your business, at no cost. This registration will allow us to enter your information into our database, and have that information readily available for those who may be searching for a business within our community.
