Advisory group will discuss funding options for city wastewater upgrade at Thursday meeting

Wastewater Treatment Plant Overview

The Nampa Wastewater Advisory Group will meet Thursday to discuss the city’s upcoming wastewater upgrade. The meeting will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Nampa Civic Center, 311 3rd St. S. The public is welcome to attend.

The group includes a wide range of community members who are reviewing options to upgrade Nampa’s wastewater infrastructure, address regulatory requirements and prepare for the future. Members committed to work closely with the Nampa Public Works Department and technical experts in 2017 and 2018.

“The city is facing a significant financial decision, but it can’t be based on engineering alone,” said Public Works Director Michael Fuss. “We are committed to making a decision that is right for Nampa. The advisory group has provided invaluable feedback as we determine the best alternative.”

Nampa’s wastewater plant treats 10 million gallons per day of used water from toilets, dishwashers, industrial operations and other sources. New state and federal regulations are requiring the city to lower the phosphorus and temperature levels of its treated wastewater over the next several years. In addition, the city is preparing to repair or replace several assets at the plant that were constructed in the 1950s.

The meeting on Oct. 12 will focus on the cost-of-service methodology that will be used to develop utility rates for the upcoming upgrade. Group members will review recent direction from the Nampa City Council and input from industry representatives.

Summaries of past NWAG meetings, technical presentations and other background materials are posted for public review at www.cityofnampa.us/wastewater. Questions about the wastewater upgrade can be submitted anytime to Nate Runyan at (208) 468-5840 or wastewater@cityofnampa.us.
