City reminder: Please clear sidewalks of snow for pedestrians

Thank you to everyone who has taken time to clear off your sidewalk. Many of you have done a super job keeping your walks cleared during this herculean series of storms.

“As per city of Nampa code, it is the responsibility of residents, business owners and tenants to remove snow from sidewalks,” Assistant Economic Development Director Robin Collins said today. “We understand that when we plowed streets, we either put new snow on your already cleared sidewalks or we compounded the problem with more snow.”

However, the city has also heard from pedestrians who say getting around town has been very unsafe for them because so many sidewalks have been ignored. That’s why the city is posting this reminder.

“We certainly understand that this has been an extreme winter, but for pedestrians who don’t have any other way to get around town, it’s important,” Collins said. “Additionally, the city’s code (Ord. 3371, 8-2-2004) states snow must be removed in a timely manner and should not be shoveled onto any portion of a roadway or other private or public property.”
