Mayor Henry receives 26 applications for City Council

Nampa Mayor Bob Henry said 26 Nampa residents submitted applications for the soon-to-be vacant City Council seat once Pam White is sworn in as a Canyon County commissioner in January.

Henry said he is impressed with the quality and diversity of applicants, which includes former City Councilman Martin Thorne and three previous City Council candidates: Laura Alvarez Schrag, Victor Rodriguez and Jeff Kirkman. Three additional people applied for the position, but it was determined that they don’t live inside the city limits.

“It’s going to be hard to come up with a list of finalists, and ever harder to choose just one name to recommend to City Council,” Henry said.

Henry decided to release the list of applicants to the public and it will take him a few days to determine a list of finalists so he can invite them in for an interview next week. Henry said he has not decided how many finalists he will name.

The mayor said he hopes to take a recommendation to City Council for a vote on Dec. 19.  The new council member would be sworn in at the Jan. 3 City Council meeting.

Applicants were asked to answer the following questions in their letter of application:
