The annual Downtown Nampa Christmas Tree Lighting festivities will begin at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, at the intersection of 1st Street and 12th Avenue. The lighting will occur at 6 p.m.

Music, provided by DreamWeaver Musical Theatre, will begin at 5 p.m. and the lighting program will begin at 5:30 p.m. Karel Knigge donated her 45-foot tall blue spruce for the Downtown centerpiece at Horse Mural Park.

Santa Claus and his elves will arrive on a Nampa Fire Department truck before the tree lighting and he promises to stay around to hear what children – young and old – want for Christmas.  He’ll also be handing out candy canes.

DreamWeaver Musical Theatre will perform songs from the holiday production, Yes Virginia, The Musical, during the event.

Downtown Nampa sponsored carriage rides will be available from 3 to 6 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis.

The annual celebration is planned in cooperation with the Downtown Nampa Association and the Small Business Saturday Shop Local campaign to help draw Thanksgiving weekend shoppers to the Downtown area.  Parking in the Downtown Garage will be free Friday and Saturday.

Jon Wakelam, owner of Qualitree, donates his services every year to cut down and transport the Christmas tree.  By the time the tree is decorated, there will be more than 2,500 lights on the tree.
