Downtown - 2nd & 3rd Street South Roadway Rebuild Project

Project Update

The 2nd and 3rd Street project is scheduled to be completed in August.

June 28 - The contractor is continuing to fill 3rd Street South back with materials and will compact the material with vibratory rolling. Paving should occur in late July. Paving is dependent on finishing the concrete curbing. Corners will be completed after the paving to accelerate the project.

Utility work, including the replacement of water valves continues on 2nd Street South.

Reconstruction is Needed

2nd and 3rd Streets have been overlaid many times, the pavement has been cut and patched for repairs and cracking is visible. Due to the existing pavement condition it is time for the entire roadway segment to be rebuilt.

Construction Activities

In addition to rebuilding the roadway segments, sidewalk corners along 2nd and 3rd Street South from 12th Avenue to 16th Avenue South will be rebuilt. The new corners will comply with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Nampa Downtown Historic District Streetscape Standards.  Several underground utilities will also receive maintenance.

Construction Impacts

Construction is especially difficult for adjacent businesses, unfortunately roadways and underground utilities do not last forever and at some point they need to be replaced. To ease the impact on businesses, vehicle and pedestrian access along the corridors will be maintained during construction, but the number of lanes will be reduced. On street parking will also remain in place except when pavement has been removed. The city is working with Downtown business owners to develop promotional materials.
